Ben F. Binkley Scholarship

The Ben F. Binkley Scholarship is derived from the church budgeting process and contributions made by concerned parishioners of HUMC.  This scholarship is designed to encourage and assist members of HUMC to pursue higher education.  Should there be more than one eligible student applicant, the awarding of the scholarship will be determined by an outside, independent board of judges.

 Criteria for Eligibility

  1. Applicant must be an active member of Hilldale United Methodist Church.
  2. Applicant must be a graduating senior from an accredited high school.
  3. Applicant must have minimum grade point average of 3.0 or have scored 27 or higher on the ACT exam or the equivalent on the College Boards Exam.
  4. Applicant must submit a completed application and return it to Hilldale United Methodist Church by May 1st of the senior year.
  5. The church has committed to funding $1,000 toward a student’s expenses for the first year of enrollment.

    Steps to Follow:

  1. Complete and sign the application form and have the minister sign it. By signing the form, the student is attesting that he/she has been accepted at the indicated college/university. The Pastor is attesting to the fact that the applicant is an active member of HUMC.
  2. The application must be received by HUMC by May 1 prior to the school year for which the scholarship is being sought.
  3. For students attending a Methodist college, HUMC will submit the approved application to the General Board of Higher Education Foundation for competition for matching funds from that Foundation and the selected United Methodist college.  If selected by Foundation, the student is eligible to receive an additional $1,000 from the Foundation and $1,000 from the selected United Methodist college.
  4. If there are no successful applicants for a given year the money in the Scholarship Fund shall be invested in an interest bearing account and rolled over to be available for the subsequent year.

Shelby Kae Russell Memorial Scholarship

The Shelby Kae Russell Memorial Scholarship is funded by a permanent endowment that began in 2012 and is dedicated to the memory of sweet Shelby Kae Russell who exhibited goodness, courage, servitude, Godliness and spiritual maturity in the face of a cancer that eventually took her from us on October 2, 2012.  Through Shelby’s bubbly personality, her selfless caring and her Christian discipline, came happiness for others.   The whole purpose of this endowed gift of $1,000 is to remind, inspire and encourage sweet Shelby’s characteristics and to recognize and reward the beneficiary with a cash gift to ease their path to college where the recipient can then encourage, inspire and serve others in the same way.
 Criteria for Eligibility
  1. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior attending an accredited high school (or home school program licensed/approved by the relevant board of education) in Clarksville – Montgomery County and entering college as a Freshman in the Fall of 2016.
  2. Applicant must have minimum grade point average of 3.0 or have scored 25 or higher on the ACT exam (or SAT equivalent).
  3. Applicant must submit a completed application to the Scholarship Committee at Hilldale United Methodist Church, 1751 Madison St, Clarksville, TN (or electronically at (office@hilldaleumc.net) by 12:00 noon, May 1, 2016.
 Steps to Follow:
  1. Complete and sign the application form and have a Pastor/Youth Director/other Christian group leader sign it.
  2. The completed application (including possible electronic submission of the essay) must be received by HUMC by 12 noon, May 1, 2016.
  3. If there are no successful applicants for a given year the award dividend shall be rolled back into the endowment.
